I’m excited to return to these series of posts about the women on our team. Every day our organization adds new consultants and when I can get to know more of their story, it always affirms how much I love being in the business of working with passionate women. Meet Dana. I asked her to share more about herself and her Norwex story.
Where did you grow up and where do you live now?
I was born in the Chicagoland area, but grew up in Columbia, SC and currently live in Greenville, SC.
Tell me about your family.
Park is my husband, and Bobby and Johnny are my two beautiful boys, 3 1/2 years and 16 months.
I know you are a Stay at Home Mom now, but what about your former life and any volunteering you do.
I am a Make A Wish volunteer, and also volunteer at the RCIA program at our church. I am a former TV anchor and reporter, having worked in Panama City, FL, Rockford, IL, Greensboro, NC, and Morgantown, WV.
Do you have time for hobbies with two active baby boys?
I love to read in any spare time that I have (I’m trying to make more time for this every day), I love to cook (Italian food, passed down from my family in Italy is my specialty), I love to work out (kickboxing and running clear my head the most), I love to scrapbook (my kids will grow up knowing what happened every day of their lives), I love trying out new restaurants with the hubby, and I love spending countless hours in my rocking chair, reading books to my boys.
How long have you used Norwex in your home?
I have been using Norwex for about three months now, and I’m absolutely hooked. We don’t spray a chemical anymore. (We donated all our old chemicals to a local animal shelter.) The only thing I’m sad about is that I didn’t start sooner.
How long have you been a Norwex consultant?
I changed my life around on May 21, 2015. Haha ☺ ONE OF the best decisions I ever made!
What motivated you to join Norwex?
You (Amanda) had approached me about joining many years ago. But timing is everything. At the time, I was working in television and didn’t think I had the time. But a few years later, I became a stay-at-home mom. I absolutely LOVE being home with my babies, but when my little guy turned a year old, I started missing the feeling of independence. Heck, I missed having a reason to put on make-up! I also didn’t like the fact that I felt guilty if I wanted to purchase a new outfit for myself or occasionally get a pedicure. When you are living on one person’s income, you don’t really “treat” yourself to those things anymore. I read an article in a “Parents” magazine that said kids are just as happy and secure with working parents as they are with parents who stay home. But I wanted to do both! So I started to explore my options. Park reminded me about Amanda and how much she loved her job, but also got to be her own boss and make her own hours—and after a phone call to her, I decided to take the plunge and try something different in my life. And I honestly don’t know if I could ever go back. What could be better than telling people about a cleaner, healthier, and safer way to make your home? I love the products, so I honestly don’t even feel like I’m “selling” them to people. I feel like I’m getting the chance to tell friends and family about some really awesome products and how they can improve the quality of life.
How has Norwex most improved your life?
Now when I go down the aisle at Costco, I pity the people who spend $40 on huge lugs of paper towels. I can’t even go down the chemical aisle, because it makes me nauseous. I looked at my baby’s bubble bath the other day and couldn’t pronounce one of the 67 ingredients….so I immediately ordered the Norwex Kids’ Bubble Bath, with just three natural ingredients. It has just opened my eyes to the way I was living life before, and how thankful I am to be educated in what we’re putting in and on our bodies.
What products have you stopped or decreased use of because of Norwex?
Windex, 409, Scrubbing Bubbles, paper towels (that I used to go through like chocolate), dryer sheets, box brand laundry detergent, Febreeze, and disinfectant sprays.
What three Norwex products could you not live without?
The Enviro Cloth, Body Pack, DeScaler and Dryer Balls.
Someone has a budget of $75 and wants to get started with Norwex. What would you recommend?
The Household Package (Enviro, Window and Dusting Mitt), the Body Pack, and a Kitchen Cloth. The Kitchen Cloth alone pays for itself with the money you’ll save from buying paper towels!
What’s your “why” for being a Norwex consultant?
It’s really a “Why not?” Because it doesn’t cost anything to become a Norwex consultant, you literally have nothing to lose. Once you start using the products in your home, you will see how much faster, easier and cheaper it is to keep your home clean and your family healthy. The rest is just fun.
What’s your favorite Norwex “wow” moment?
Ohhh, I LOVE when I hear from my customers! I have people send me pictures of how much dust their Dust Mitt picked up, how the Blue Diamond magically got rid of the nasty black stains in the shower, the before and after of the Descaler getting hard water stains off a shower door. One customer said, “I’m touching my house in ways I never thought I would!” Those make me so happy because I know that I’ve not just sold a great product to someone, but it’s opening their eyes to how well you can clean without subjecting your family to harsh chemicals.
Any final comments or additions you’d like to share?
I’m just so thankful that I decided to come on board with Norwex. It’s been a fun ride so far, and above all, I don’t miss a moment with my family (except for getting out of cleaning dinner and bath duty twice a week, when I have parties).
I have gotten the chance to meet some pretty awesome people, whom I otherwise would not have had the chance to meet, and I’ve gotten to connect with many old friends. It’s also opened the door for my husband and I to talk “business” and we have great discussions about our day—and I can talk about more than just what Mr. Tree told us on our walk, and how many caterpillars we saw squashed by bicycles (although we still talk about these things, too).
Thank you Dana, for sharing more about your Norwex journey!
